WordPress? Why WordPress?

WordPress LogoMy web platform of choice is WordPress? Why?

  • WordPress is the most used CMS (Content Management System) in the world.
  • 74,652,825 sites (2014)
  • Estimate 440 million searches on “WordPress” every year
  • Over 40 translations of WordPress
  • 22% of new U.S. registered domains run on WordPress {120,000 new domains are registered worldwide per day}
  • 40,000 plugins (Lego blocks) Range in price from free to $200 or so.
  • Thousands of themes. WordPress Themes are a group of files that work together to create the design and functionality of a WordPress site. They range in price from free to several hundred dollars.
  • Most new WP themes are called ‘responsive designs’ which basically means they are ‘mobile friendly’ as far as the search engines are concerned. That is a good thing.
  • 50,000 new WP sites are added daily
  • WordPress itself is FREE. Just download and go to town…with the appropriate theme and plugins, of course.
  • WordPress is designed to be SEO-friendly. Unique title pages, permalinks, architecture.  Search engines love WordPress sites. There are some highly regarded SEO plugins for WordPress.
  • Website owners can be taught to edit their own content. They can blog with new content. General editing does not require a web developer.
  • There are thousands of WordPress web developers out there. Not so good for me. {This is what I call…’What happens if my web developer is hit by a truck’…issue.}

There are many major websites running on WordPress…

  • WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association)
  • The San Francisco Examiner (daily newspaper)
  • Pulse by Target
  • Dole
  • Glad
  • Bloomberg Professional
  • Toyota Motors Brazil
  • The Nation (U.S. oldest weekly magazine)
  • Garth Brooks
  • Vogue
  • Time Inc.
  • Beyonce
